Armenian Justice Minister Srbuhi Galyan said during a press conference that a new constitution needs to be drafted.

“Our task is to get the text of the new constitution before the elections, we should work in this direction,” she said.

According to experts, one of the reasons is Baku’s demand to remove reference to the Declaration of Independence, mention of Artsakh, and international recognition of the Armenian Genocide from the text of the constitution.

The minister noted that the issue of having a new constitution was raised immediately after the Velvet Revolution, and even a concept was created, but the work did not lead to a logical result. “As a new minister, I consider it necessary to draft a new constitution, which may or may not be approved by the people,” Galyan added, stating that “the current constitution does not provide answers to socially significant issues,” and this matter has nothing to do with foreign policy.
