Armenia reaffirms its political will to ensure unimpeded communication between the main part of Azerbaijan and the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic within the framework of agreed arrangements, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at a government meeting.
“I want to emphasize and confirm our political will: under the agreed conditions, we are ready, we are willing, and we will certainly move in this direction, including ensuring unimpeded communication between Azerbaijan and the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic, in line with the principles we have repeatedly outlined. Our attitude is that here too we must go beyond the logic of conflict and move toward a normal, peaceful atmosphere and mindset,” he said.
He noted that this process will not be quick either in Armenia or in Azerbaijan, since discourses shaped over years of conflict still persist in both societies. As an example, Pashinyan referred to statements around fuel imports, when both sides accuse each other of using fuel for military purposes.
“We must note that the current discourse regarding Armenia and Azerbaijan no longer reflects today’s realities, and this is exactly what I mean. At the same time, blaming people is also wrong, because the logic that has been circulating for 35 years or more cannot be stopped by one action or one lever. Therefore, we must adopt a more practical approach, focus on work, since the practical benefits of peace can be much more effective than endless debates around various theses, doubts, or challenges,” Pashinyan added.
