Armenia-Russia military and technical cooperation has sagged due to Western pressure – Russia MFA

In an interview with TASS, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin talked about the possibility of new Russian-Armenian talks on the accumulated problems in relations between the two countries.
“We have not interrupted bilateral contacts with Armenia, as well as with other close partners. Recently, on May 8, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a thorough conversation on the sidelines of the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council. Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin met with his Armenian counterpart in February. We have the most significant results in trade and the economy. The bilateral Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation is also working productively,” he said, adding that, unfortunately, he cannot say the same about political relations between the two countries.
“We interact with our Armenian partners in cultural and humanitarian areas as well. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about the political dimension of our relations. There have been no meetings of the foreign ministers since November 2023. The partners have not shown interest in our proposal to develop and conclude the next plan of inter-ministerial consultations. It is not our fault that the dynamics of contacts in the defense sector has noticeably decreased.
Military and technical cooperation has also sagged as a result of pressure from Westerners who are trying to force Yerevan to minimize ties with our country. Nevertheless, we hope that the publicly announced attitude of the Armenian authorities to work to eliminate problematic issues and irritants will become practical. We are ready for this,” Galuzin concluded.
