Speaking with Alpha News, Russian military expert Dmitry Kornev commented on the news that the Armenian parliament ratified an agreement on the status of the EU mission.

According to the expert, Armenia wants to compensate for the withdrawal of Russian border guards.

“Armenia now wants to cease the participation of Russian border guards on the territory of Armenia and, to compensate for the absence of Russian people, wants to invite Europeans. Taking into account the current political picture in Armenia, there is actually nothing unusual about it. This was expected. We will see in the future how good or bad this is. We don’t know if this is good or bad. Armenia’s current leadership believes that this is good,” Kornev said.

“It is worth noting that for Azerbaijan and Turkey, it makes no difference whether there are Russian border guards or European observers. For Azerbaijan and Turkey, in principle, nothing changes. That is, they will continue building their relationship in their own way—the way they used to. Armenia’s current leadership believes that Armenia needs such a solution, and this solution is more correct. Russia, however, believes that this is bad,” Kornev concluded.
