Armenia will be used to weaken Russia’s influence in the South Caucasus, expert says
Speaking with Alpha News, political strategist and expert on international affairs Alexey Kochetkov commented on the statement of Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova about NATO and Armenia.
According to Kochetkov, NATO has the task of removing the Russian military base from Gyumri.
“Now NATO has the task of removing the Russian military base from Gyumri so that there is no longer any Russian military presence there. All this will be as it was with Ukraine or as it was with Moldova or Georgia: we promise everything you want, but we’ll sort it out later. When was Georgia promised to join NATO? What happened then? Nothing.
It is clear that there are no real problems between Russia and Armenia. We will not have any conflicts. There are more Armenians living in Russia than in Armenia, and the Armenian people are already like indigenous people for us,” Kochetkov said.
According to the expert, Armenia will be used to weaken Russia’s influence in the South Caucasus as much as possible.
“Armenia will be used, among other things, to weaken Russia’s influence in the South Caucasus as much as possible. NATO will not give anything in return. The most important thing for them now is to destroy that shaky, so to speak, remaining mutual understanding that exists between our states.
It is important to understand that Armenia has a conflict with Azerbaijan, which has not yet been resolved and, most likely, will not be resolved in the near future. I think NATO doesn’t really need additional problems. Moreover, Turkey, a NATO member, stands behind Azerbaijan,” Kochetkov concluded.
