Armenia does not intend to engage in an arms race with any country, including Azerbaijan, but this does not mean that the country will stop purchasing weapons and military equipment or modernizing its army, Armenia’s Minister of Defense, Suren Papikyan, said in a press conference.
According to him, the refusal to participate in an arms race is a clear position of the government. “We are not going to engage in a race with any country, including Azerbaijan, and this is the position of our government,” he noted.
At the same time, Papikyan emphasized that this in no way means abandoning the development of defense capabilities. He said that Armenia will continue to purchase weapons and military equipment, as well as carry out the process of army modernization. The minister noted that significant figures have already been published in this regard, which, according to him, serve as clear evidence of these efforts.
