Associate Professor of Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory, duduk master Emmanuel Hovhannisyan told Alpha News about the live concert to be held in Pasadena.
“This will not be a recital. A whole galaxy of duduk masters will perform from the stage: Tigran Zakaryan, Norayr Arakelyan, and David Sahakyan. I will also be playing at the concert. In addition, young Armenian American duduk players who are taking their first career steps will perform. Singers will participate, including Araksya Amirkhanyan. Haikian Choir will also be among the performers. The goal of the concert is to present the duduk beyond its usual sound,” Emmanuel Hovhannisyan said.
He added that the duduk will sound in different musical genres, which will appeal to the audience.
“The duduk will find a new vibrancy in jazz or modern music. Pieces that have never been played will be presented, you will also hear familiar pieces. In short, everyone will be satisfied with the variety of music. No part is recorded beforehand, the whole concert will be live,” Emmanuel Hovhannisyan concluded.
On November 13, a concert dedicated to the Armenian duduk will be held in Pasadena. The concert is exceptional as the Armenian instrument will be presented in a new way. Along with the favorite folk melodies, the duduk will sound in various musical genres: jazz, classical and modern. During the event, the history of duduk will be told through videos.
