There are certain setbacks in Azerbaijan’s proposals for a peace treaty, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said at a press conference with his Greek counterpart Giorgos Gerapetritis.
“Yes, I would say that we see certain setbacks in terms of the content of certain points of the text in Azerbaijan’s proposals, but at the same time certain progress in a number of other areas,” Mirzoyan said.
According to him, Armenia has worked on these points and sent its constructive proposals. The FM added that, regardless of progress or setbacks in the next set of proposals, the peace treaty should be based on a number of principles that Armenia has repeatedly voiced.
“The countries must mutually recognize territorial integrity without any equivocation. This is the issue that requires the utmost clarity. The final peace treaty must ensure this clarity,” Mirzoyan said.
He noted that the delimitation process could take years, but the peace treaty must provide clear grounds for the process. Any uncertainty in these two issues, he said, could become the basis for further aggression and escalation.
