Armenian HRD supports Church, urging authorities not to interfere in its internal affairs

Armenian Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan has unexpectedly voiced support for the Armenian Apostolic Church amid Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s constant attacks on the Catholicos of All Armenians and other clergy members.

She has noted that the state is obliged at the legislative level to ensure the conditions under which the church community will independently determine its leadership, internal regulations, dogmas, community structure, and methods of appointing hierarchs.

Manasyan has further emphasized that the state should refrain from content analysis of religious organizations’ statutes.
