An Armenian khachkar (cross-stone) was installed in the Russian town of Severobaikalsk as a sign of centuries-old friendship between the Armenian and Russian peoples.
Today there are about 2,000 Armenians living in the Republic of Buryatia in Russia, with only 50 of them living in Severobaikalsk. The Diaspora here is very small but friendly. Today the community installed a symbol of the Armenian nation, a khachkar.
The khachkar weighing more than a ton was delivered from Armenia. The money for transportation and installation was collected by local Armenians.
The monument is installed near the Church of Our Lady of Kazan. Now this place has two crosses, Russian Orthodox and Armenian Apostolic.
