On October 12, Romania celebrates Armenian Language Day as a tribute to the rich heritage of the Armenian community in the country.

“Today in Romania we celebrate the Day of Armenian Language – honoring the rich heritage of the Armenian community in Romania. A language is more than a communication tool, and encapsulates more than just history and heritage. Languages are key markers of national identity. More fittingly – ‘languages are the pedigree of nations’ (Samuel Johnson). Today we celebrate together with the Armenian community in Romania a unique alphabet, an ancient literary tradition, and a powerful symbol of identity,” Romania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement, concluding with the words in Armenian: “Our language is our identity”.
