The Armenian Lawyers’ Association called on the organizers of the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to move the event from Azerbaijan to a country that aligns with the COP’s values and objectives.

“The Armenian Lawyers’ Association expresses deep concern regarding the decision to hold the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Azerbaijan from November 11 to November 22, 2024.

We consider this decision incompatible with the goals and values of COP, based on Azerbaijan’s continuous irresponsible behavior in the areas of human rights, democracy, and environmental issues,” the Association said in a statement.

It is noted that the Armenian Lawyers’ Association is ready to cooperate with all stakeholders to ensure that COP29 is held in a location that complies with the principles of international law and the global goals of combating climate change.

The statement was adopted by the Board of the Armenian Lawyers’ Association on July 31, 2024. The Armenian Lawyers’ Association has held special consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council since 2014.
