The situation in Jerusalem’s Armenian Quarter is relatively calm. However, the sounds of war are constantly audible, which has caused concern within the community, Bedik Kirakosyan, a representative of the Armenian community in Jerusalem, told Alpha News.

According to him, the monastery complex in the Armenian Quarter is currently secure.

“The closest strike from an Iranian missile was about a 10‑minute drive away. Before that, two other strikes were recorded, one about 20 minutes away, the other 10 minutes away. But our quarter has not been targeted,” he noted.

Kirakosyan explained that loud explosions and air raid sirens are frequently heard in the area.
“The sounds of military operations are very clear and naturally have a psychological impact on people. The community is somewhat unsettled by the overall wartime atmosphere,” he said.

He also emphasized that there are no shelters in the Armenian Quarter, and residents mostly remain in their homes or within the monastery.

“We are staying in the monastery grounds and feel safe here. We have nowhere else to flee or relocate. Sometimes, even during prayer, those sounds can be heard,” Kirakosyan added.

He acknowledged that fear is ever‑present, but the community continues to carry on with daily life as best they can.

“Of course, there is fear. The concern that something might happen is always there. But for now, we are here and trying to remain calm,” he concluded.
