Armenian movie shortlisted for Oscar consideration for first time

For the first time in history, an Armenian movie has been shortlisted for an Oscar.

A shortlist of candidates for the 96th Academy Awards ceremony has been presented in the United States, including movies by such directors as Wim Wenders, Aki Kaurismäki, Jonathan Glazer, etc.

The list includes “Amerikatsi” by Armenian director Michael Goorjian, which received state financial support from the National Film Center. “Amerikatsi” stars Hovik Keuchkerian, Nelli Uvarova, Mikhail Trukhin, Narine Girgoryan, and Jean-Pierre Nshanian, and is produced by Goorjian, R. Patrick Malkassian, Arman Nshanian and Sol Tryon.

The world premiere took place at the 19th Yerevan Golden Apricot International Film Festival.
