The Armenian community of Belgium has expressed dissatisfaction with statements made by comedian Vache Tovmasyan, expecting a public clarification and apology from him regarding the incident.
During his tour in the United States, mocking and offensive remarks made in one of Tovmasyan’s performances addressed to the spiritual pastor of the Armenian community of Belgium, Reverend Father Zatik Avetikyants were perceived as a display of disrespect, Aysor. am reports.
The Committee of the Armenian Community of Belgium issued a statement condemning the actor’s behavior and emphasizing:
“The Committee of the Armenian Community of Belgium considers it necessary to respond to the situation that has become the subject of widespread discussion in recent days and is connected with comedian Vache Tovmasyan.
We recall that during his previous visit to Belgium, the actor received an exceptionally warm and hospitable welcome from our community. His visit was organized with the support of public organizations and with the blessing and participation of the local spiritual pastor, Father Zatik. Our community has always been open to cultural initiatives and has readily supported Armenian artists.
It is with regret and indignation that we learned that during his tour in the United States, one of the comedian’s performances included rude and offensive remarks directed both at the Armenian community of Belgium and at Father Zatik. The sketch in question was perceived not as art or humor, but as a manifestation of disrespect toward those who had previously welcomed and supported him warmly.
In light of the situation, we state that there is deep disappointment and justified dissatisfaction within our community. Any public statements or actions capable of offending the community’s and the Diaspora’s spiritual values are unacceptable to us.
Against this background, we have learned that the actor intends to visit Belgium again. The community expects a public clarification and apology regarding the incident. Only in an atmosphere of mutual respect and responsibility is it possible to restore trust.
The Committee of the Armenian Community of Belgium continues to monitor developments and will act guided by the interests and dignity of the community.”
