There are 150-200 Armenians living in New Zealand, the Armenian community was established here in the 1990s, Ashot Grigoryan, a board member of the Armenian Society of New Zealand in Auckland, told Alpha News.

“Armenians in New Zealand are engaged in medicine, individual entrepreneurship and programming. There are people who are involved in the food industry. But there are no Armenians in the local authorities,” Grigoryan noted.

According to him, the community organizes various events related to traditional Armenian holidays. Speaking about the problem of preserving the language, Grigoryan noted, “At home we speak only Armenian. We don’t even use Russian words.”

Grigoryan noted that Armenians in New Zealand help each other a lot. “We keep in touch with almost everyone, we get together at least once a month, hold meetings,” he added.
