A number of events honoring the memory of the victims of the Sumgait pogrom were held in St. Petersburg, Russia, with the blessing of the spiritual pastor of the city’s Armenian community, Priest Yefrem Zargaryan, and at the initiative of the Armenian Regional Youth Association.

The commemorative event continued at the Vernatun Cultural Center with the opening of the exhibition entitled ‘Armenian Historical and Cultural Trace in Baku’.

Priest Yefrem Zargaryan delivered a welcoming speech, underscoring the importance of preserving the memory and disseminating truthful information and facts about the life and activities of Armenians in Azerbaijan.

The attendees were shown footage of the last Easter service in the Armenian Church of St. Gregory the Illuminator in Baku in 1987, as well as a recreated 3D model of St. Thaddeus and St. Bartholomew Cathedral, destroyed in the 1930s.
