Armenia’s EU membership is distant possibility – Konstantin Zatulin

Konstantin Zatulin, the first deputy chair of Russia’s State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, shared his insights with RTVI on the process of Armenia’s accession to the European Union.
In the second and final reading, Armenia’s National Assembly passed the bill initiating the country’s accession to the European Union. Sixty-four MPs voted in favor of the decision, while seven opposed it.
Zatulin noted that it was due to the membership in the EAEU that “Armenia’s economy was boosted,” and participation in the EU will mean leaving this space. The MP said that Armenia’s membership in the EU is still a distant possibility, as Europe has yet to make any concrete promises.
“But it is already beginning to fall under the influence of the European Union, as well as some individual countries of this union, such as France, and other countries that play along with Pashinyan’s intention to break away from the post-Soviet space,” Zatulin concluded.
