If Armenia quits the EAEU, its exports will decrease by 80 percent, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said in a press briefing on Friday.

According to her, there will be a rupture of decades-old trade chains.

“There is an economy, and the EAEU is about economic benefits. Membership in the EAEU gives Armenia serious economic benefits, which Yerevan itself has repeatedly noted. The same matter was discussed at the meeting between Lavrov and Mirzoyan in Moscow. The trade turnover with Russia alone approached $12 billion last year,” the diplomat stressed.

Zakharova explained that these are not handouts or humanitarian aid. “This is honestly earned money that producers in Armenia receive for the goods they supply. It’s not just income, it’s impetus to development,” she added.

Speaking about the willingness of the Europeans and Americans to increase economic interaction, Zakharova noted that Armenia’s trade with the EU and the US saw a decline.

“Let’s look at the statistics for 2024. Armenia’s trade with the EU and the US has sagged significantly, it is about 6 times less than the trade turnover with Russia. Specific figures,” she concluded.
