Armenia’s foreign policy does not correspond to the country’s national interests, expert says
Speaking with Alpha News, former member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Spiridon Kilinkarov commented on the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan’s statement that Armenia is not Russia’s ally in Ukraine.
According to the expert, making such statements is a big mistake on Pashinyan’s part.
“It is Armenia, not Russia, that is vulnerable in this situation. Armenia, of course, has the right to express its viewpoint, but it seems to me that Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan is making a big mistake. Pashinyan did not receive any guarantees from the West and lost all guarantees from Russia. So, he was left alone with his problems. It seems to me that Armenia will find itself in a very difficult situation, and at the same time, it will not have to wait for support from Russia, and the West will simply not support Armenia,” Kilinkarov said.
“Armenia’s foreign policy does not correspond to the country’s national interests. If Armenia wants security, it needs to understand who can provide this security, not just in words or on paper, but in reality. Based on this, it must make appropriate decisions. For this, you need to be independent and understand what this interest is. I believe that Ukraine has made many political mistakes. There were many options that were not used. The situation is the same in Armenia. There were opportunities, there were options, but there were wrong political decisions that led to what we are witnessing now,” Kilinkarov concluded.
