“When we saw that a number of French cities sent humanitarian aid to Artsakh, we asked themselves: why don’t we do the same in Glendale, especially since Glendale and Martuni are recognized as sister cities?” Artashes Kasakhyan, a member of the Glendale City Council, said live on Alpha News, referring to Glendale’s decision to send humanitarian aid to Artsakh.
“We had a conversation about how we can send aid, but it was before the blockade imposed by Azerbaijan. When we started to discuss this issue, we decided that we cannot remain silent, the community must help Artsakh,” Kasakhyan said.
He has mentioned the difficulties of sending humanitarian aid to Artsakh, noting that the Lachin corridor is closed, which is why, the French aid has not crossed the border yet.
“It is hard to talk about sending aid to Artsakh. We see vehicles standing at the border, unable to enter Artsakh, or even unable to use the Lachin corridor, because there is pressure to go through Aghdam. We decided something had to be done. The fact that Glendale and Martuni are sister cities is enough for us to try to do something for Artsakh. Now, having collected the funds, it will be decided how we can use them to provide humanitarian aid, including medication and food,” Kasakhyan concluded.
