The screening was attended by senior officials of the Uruguay Foreign Ministry, the Montevideo Municipality, the National Administration of Public Education (ANEP), parliamentarians, foreign ambassadors accredited in the country, political and public figures, as well as representatives of the Armenian Diaspora in Uruguay.

In her remarks, Mariam Gevorgyan noted that the screening of Aurora’s Sunrise in the country, which was the first to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide, has a special meaning. Underscoring the importance of recognizing and condemning such crimes, she commended the recent unanimous adoption by both chambers of the Uruguayan Parliament of the bill declaring April 24 of each year as the Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day.

Filmmaker Jack Poghosyan touched upon the history of the film’s creation, stressed the importance of showing Armenian cinema in Uruguay, and expressed confidence that screenings of Armenian films will continue.
