Speaking with Alpha News, Russian political scientist Gleb Kuznetsov commented on Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan’s statement that Armenia and Azerbaijan mutually voiced their concerns about their constitutions and that this is an obstacle to long-term peace.

According to the expert, the main obstacle to signing an agreement is that Azerbaijan does not need this peace agreement.

“The subject of bargaining in international talks can be absolutely any issue of foreign and domestic policy of any of the participating parties. International talks can be devoted to any occasion and any topic. In my opinion, the main obstacle to signing an agreement is that Azerbaijan does not need this peace agreement. It is satisfied with everything. It is in a power position, and the only reason Azerbaijan is even conducting some kind of peace talks is pressure from international mediators—from Washington to Moscow, Europe, and so on.

Everyone wants the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict to be more or less resolved and some documents to be signed that would finalize it. This is, on the one hand, good news for Armenia, because Armenia is thus avoiding the threat of invasion of its territory, but bad news for Artsakh, because these are the same international mediators who talk about Artsakh once and do not remember about it ever again,” Kuznetsov said.
