Azerbaijan says it wants to join BRICS

Azerbaijan wants to become a full member of BRICS, the Speaker of the country’s parliament, Sahiba Gafarova, said at the plenary session of the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum.

“Azerbaijan promotes dialogue, cooperation, and solidarity in its foreign policy. This applies to bilateral relations and activities within international platforms. Specifically, this applies to cooperation with BRICS as well. Azerbaijan has already expressed its desire to join BRICS,” she said.

According to Gafarova, the development of cooperation at the parliamentary level will contribute to achieving this goal.

She underscored the importance of having “sincere dialogue within international parliamentary platforms to avoid double standards.”

“Parliaments should promote cooperation, build bridges, and fight confrontation. We should promote sincere dialogue to avoid becoming a platform for double standards, as it happens, for example, in the European Parliament,” she said, adding that she was confident the BRICS Parliamentary Forum would turn into an effective cooperation platform.
