Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry summoned the Ambassador of Iran after the crash of a drone in Nakhichevan. The ministry issued a statement regarding the fall of Iranian drones on the territory of an airport and a school in Nakhichevan.

“On March 5, during the daytime, drone attacks were carried out from Iranian territory against the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan. One drone struck the terminal building of Nakhichevan Airport, while another fell near a school in the village of Shekerabad.

As a result of the attack carried out from the territory of Iran, the airport building sustained damage, and two civilians were injured. We strongly condemn these drone strikes. This attack on the territory of Azerbaijan contradicts the norms and principles of international law and contributes to increased tension in the region.

We demand that the Iranian side clarify the incident without delay, provide explanations, and take urgent measures to ensure that such incidents do not recur. The Azerbaijani side reserves the right to take appropriate retaliatory measures.

The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Iran to Azerbaijan, Mujtaba Demirchilu, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, where a strong protest will be conveyed and an official note delivered,” the statement reads.
