Azerbaijan will do everything to capture Syunik — Sergey Karnaukhov

Speaking with Alpha News, public activist Sergey Karnaukhov commented on the situation in Syria, Turkey’s latest statements against Armenia, and the prospect of signing a peace agreement between Yerevan and Baku.

“Aliyev is doing everything from a position of strength. He understands that he has a strong negotiating position and he has ultimate goals. And the ultimate goal is the territories of Armenia, which should be ceded to Azerbaijan, which they need and consider their own. The topic of the ‘Zangezur corridor’, and in general, the topic of Syunik, has not been removed from the agenda, and everything will be done to take this territory away. We must understand that the land communication with Nakhichevan, the connection of all territories, and the formation of a single trade and logistics area with Turkey are important for Azerbaijan’s economy.

Therefore, Azerbaijan will strive for this and will do everything to make it happen. We cannot be sure that Aliyev’s structures, his soft power, and his agents are working in Armenia, but we must assume that. There is a lot of informal work going on, which is beyond the gaze of journalists and ordinary people. This is lobbying, this is the formation of the necessary political view of the Armenian leadership through its agents. Therefore, all this can last for a very long time, until Azerbaijan is satisfied with the geostrategic situation and the position it is seeking. In my opinion, Azerbaijan has already done so much evil to the Armenian people that it’s time for it to calm down,” Karnaukhov said.

According to Karnaukhov, Syria will be divided into pieces.

“I do not know what miracles must happen for Syria to remain in the political state in which it is at this moment. This is how Turkey is trying to resolve its Kurdish issue. Most likely, Syria will simply slide into one of the most unpleasant formats that can only be in the historical dimension. This is practically a guerrilla insurgent war. Everything will be on fire there. By making a very powerful geopolitical step, Turkey has solved its problem. They wanted to create a buffer zone of security in their south, and now they have created not just a zone but taken over the whole country. What does this mean?

This means that they understand perfectly well that the issue of Armenia is a matter of one military step. If they were able to take Syria, then Armenia is a matter of one day. But, of course, they won’t do it. Why? Because in this configuration they don’t need it. But they will fit the issue of Armenia into those immediate plans, which, as I understand it, will be implemented by the Trump team,” Karnaukhov said.

According to the expert, Armenia has been given the role of a military base that will participate in solving the tasks of the war with Iran.

“Turkey is the most important area for an offensive against Iran. Syria could not remain in this configuration, provided that the plans for an offensive against Iran are realistic. Accordingly, Syria was destroyed according to this task. The question arises: what might Armenia look like in this future configuration of the war with Iran? What role will it play? So it will become a battleground. There it will be necessary to make sure that the entire young population is like in Georgia, under one or another NGO, pro-American and pro-Western, or sects.

Sects are the second part of the Americans’ soft power, which is being implemented today in Armenia, Georgia, and other countries. Accordingly, an obedient, very malleable environment will have to provide the necessary political actions that the Americans will need before and during the attack on Iran. Most likely, Armenia has been given the role of a military base that will participate in solving the tasks of the war with Iran. This is Erdogan’s task now. Therefore, in this configuration, they will shape Armenia for future military tasks.
