The International Court will consider all facts regarding cases starting from 1996, international law expert Ara Ghazaryan told Alpha News.
“The International Court of Justice upheld two preliminary objections of Armenia and rejected one. This is a favorable judicial act, and it is important on all three grounds, even if one of them does not contain a subject of the dispute. The first is especially important because the scope of the trial was moved from 1993 to 1996. That is, the court will examine the facts related to the cases starting from 1996. And we know that in 1992-1994 there was a war, displacements, villages, and cities were destroyed, and all this was attributed to Armenia,” Ghazaryan said.
He stressed that Azerbaijan will continue to insist that the consequences of the 1992-1996 events may become the subject of an investigation.
“I think Azerbaijan will approach this issue from a different perspective. Given that Armenia has controlled these territories since 1996 and could at least ensure the return of the residents, but it did not do so, based on allegedly racist goals. Azerbaijan will insist that although it is impossible to investigate the 1992-1996 events, their consequences may be made the subject of an investigation,” Ghazaryan concluded.
