Azerbaijan will not fulfill ECHR decisions – Ilham Aliyev

Azerbaijan will not fulfill the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said on Wednesday. According to him, the reason for this is the termination of powers of the Azerbaijani delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

“If the Azerbaijani delegation does not participate in the Assembly’s meetings and cannot vote for the election of judges of the European Court of Human Rights, the court’s decisions regarding Azerbaijan will be considered null and void. We have been deprived of the right to vote,” Aliyev said.

In January 2024, PACE resolved not to ratify the credentials of the Azerbaijani delegation, with 90 votes in favor and 76 against.
