A court in Azerbaijan accepted for consideration the appeal of Artsakh resident Vagif Khachatryan, abducted by Azerbaijani security forces in the Lachin corridor.
According to Azerbaijani media, Khachatryan’s personal data and the grounds for the appeal have been examined at a meeting chaired by Judge Hasan Ahmedov in the Baku Court of Appeal.
A trial is scheduled for January 7, 2024.
On November 7, the Azerbaijani court sentenced Vagif Khachatryan, 68, to 15 years of imprisonment.
The sham trial of Vagif Khachatryan started in Baku on October 13. According to the fabricated case, a total of 59 people were considered “victims.”
Vagif Khachatryan was a participant in the first Artsakh war, and for that reason, the Azerbaijani authorities charged him with serious crimes.
Khachatryan was abducted while crossing the Lachin corridor—and accompanied by the ICRC. He was being transported to Armenia for heart surgery.
