Azerbaijani delegation leaves PACE as mark of protest

The delegation of Azerbaijan ceases cooperation with PACE as a mark of protest against double standards towards the country, Azerbaijani media report.

“In the face of the current intolerable atmosphere of racism, Azerbaijanophobia, and Islamophobia in the PACE, the Azerbaijani delegation decides to cease its engagement with and presence at the PACE until further notice.

Today, PACE is going to officially refuse to approve the powers (credentials) of the delegation of Azerbaijan. PACE explains this provocative attack by pointing out that their observers were not invited to the presidential election scheduled for February 7.

In fact, PACE’s attitude towards Azerbaijan deteriorated sharply after the restoration of sovereignty in September of last year. In October, PACE adopted a unilateral resolution in which Baku was accused of ‘forcibly displacing’ Armenians from Karabakh,” the Azerbaijani delegation said in a statement.
