Speaking with Alpha News, Russian political scientist Alexey Anpilogov commented on the likelihood of an escalation of the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“If we consider the border regions of Armenia and Azerbaijan, taking into account the new border that was formed after the fall of Artsakh, there is now a certain tension in this area. Azerbaijan is deliberately creating tension as it seeks to alter the current demarcation line of the state border. All these provocations will certainly be used to put pressure on Yerevan as the objectively weaker party in this conflict,” Anpilogov said.

According to the expert, there is a very likely danger of either a gradual or sudden escalation of the armed conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

“It is necessary to understand that Azerbaijan clearly does not rule out forceful methods, including military methods to forcibly change the demarcation line, which it wants to transform into a state border that is more suitable for official Baku. Such actions include mass purchases of weapons and cooperation with foreign states hostile to both Armenia and Russia, including Ukraine, which has become public knowledge. And receiving the Starlink system on its territory was an important step, since Starlink is one of the key points for ensuring tactical and operational communications for the armed forces of any country, including in such difficult mountain conditions that are typical for the current state border of Azerbaijan and Armenia.

There are also a number of other factors, including political statements by the leadership of Azerbaijan, which calls the current border nothing other than the actual border, that is, it emphasizes that it can be revised. Baku also insists that Armenia allegedly controls some territories that originally belong to Azerbaijan. Therefore, of course, the danger of either a gradual or sudden escalation of the armed conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, unfortunately, must be considered as highly probable, no matter how much we would like to have a situation of stable peace in the Transcaucasia,” Anpilogov concluded.
