“Battle for the Caucasus”: Viktor Soghomonyan on the outcome of Armenia’s upcoming parliamentary elections

Viktor Soghomonyan, professor at MGIMO University and founder of Alpha News, discussed in an interview with Vesti (Вести) the potential impact of the upcoming parliamentary elections in Armenia on the region.

According to him, “in a sense, this is a battle for the Caucasus.” Soghomonyan expressed his belief that the outcome of the upcoming elections to the National Assembly of Armenia will shape the political landscape across the entire South Caucasus.

“If the opposition comes to power, it will pursue a more pro-Russian course, which is why the European Union is providing unprecedented support to the current authorities,” he emphasized.

To note, the next elections to the National Assembly of Armenia are scheduled for June 7, 2026.
