Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov commented on Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s statement about the opening of regional communications soon.
Earlier, Pashinyan said a decision on opening may be made in the coming days. He noted that Armenia and Azerbaijan are close to a mutually acceptable decision on opening regional communications.
According to Bayramov, there is a specific provision in the 2020 trilateral declaration.
“It specifies the obligations that Armenia undertakes. This topic has been discussed for a long time. After three and a half years of discussions, we consider the expression ‘agreement reached’ belated. This agreement should have been reached long ago. If there is no official document and Armenia has not started working in this direction, it means that there are still open questions. The work on transport and communication infrastructure, which will be brought to the border with Armenia soon, has been carried out in Azerbaijan for a long time,” he said.
Bayramov said that currently the Azerbaijani delegation is focused on COP29, and discussions with Armenia around the draft peace deal before December are impossible. The meeting may take place in December or January next year, but there is no specific agreement on this issue yet.
