US President Joe Biden made a special appeal to his fellow citizens, in which he stated that, in his opinion, he deserved a second term as head of state, but decided to sacrifice his own ambitions for the benefit of American democracy, RIA Novosti writes.

“In recent weeks, I have clearly realized that I need to unite my party at this critical moment. I believe that my merits as president, my leadership in the world and my vision of the future of America make me worthy of a second term, but nothing, nothing should stand in the way of saving our democracy, including our own ambitions,” said the head of the White House, whose speech was broadcast by American TV channels from the Oval Office.

According to the politician, it is “time for him to pass the baton to the younger generation.

” Biden added that he had decided on the choice of a presidential candidate, and called for voting for 59-year-old Kamala Harris. “She’s experienced. She’s tough. She’s capable. She was an incredible partner for me. <…> Now the choice is yours, the American people,” the president added.
