‘Bought weapons or lined their pockets?’ – Shirak residents on increase of external public debt
One of the reasons for the growth of Armenia’s external debt is the purchase of weapons. Several months ago, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, responding to accusations from the opposition in the National Assembly of Armenia, stated: “We are reproached that the debt has risen to $8 billion, asking what we did with these funds? I didn’t want to say it, but I will. We bought weapons.”
During a survey in Shirak, residents of the region commented on the Prime Minister’s statement, noting that “only after the regime changes will inspections be carried out, and it will become clear whether the authorities were buying weapons or lining their own pockets.”
According to them, the authorities have deceived the people so many times that now no one believes their words.
“If they bought weapons, why did they send more than 5,000 young people into the slaughterhouse to die, and got away with it?” one of the survey participants asked indignantly.
