Speaking with Alpha News, political scientist Igor Semenovsky commented on the BRICS role in the formation of a new world order.

“I believe that we really should not expect new members in BRICS yet because the organization needs to settle down, understand the framework and boundaries of its format and interaction. In the current year of Russia’s presidency in BRICS, we are going through the stage of getting used to each other in a new composition. We already understand that there are different views regarding whether the organization should expand or wait.

The only thing that the members of the organization agree on is that it is necessary to institutionalize and normalize the status of a certain partnership with the BRICS organization. In this case, we will certainly see that the summit will result in a number of countries acquiring the official status of a partner of the BRICS member states,” the political scientist noted.

Igor Semenovsky noted that BRICS advocates for equal interaction between states, international partnership and international communication.

“Nobody is saying that BRICS is an organization that is directed against the West, and even if there are some disagreements and contradictions on certain issues with the US, the format of BRICS’s work is not against the global financial architecture. BRICS is not saying that previous payment systems should be cancelled, we can create our own payment system that will work together with the system that already exists.

The only thing BRICS opposes is the West’s constant agenda around unilateral, illegal, restrictive measures circumventing the UN Charter. BRICS advocates for equal interaction between states, international partnership and international communication,” Igor Semenovsky emphasized.
