Brussels and Kyiv remain determined to maneuver in Ukraine talks – Pyotr Kolchin
Speaking with Alpha News, political scientist and military expert Pyotr Kolchin shared his views on the upcoming negotiations between Washington and Kyiv regarding the conflict in Ukraine.
“The overall strategy of Kyiv and the European Union is already quite clear: no real compromises. While creating the appearance of readiness for peace, they are putting forward patently unrealistic conditions that run counter to Moscow’s position. This resembles a kind of ‘Minsk 3.0’—agreements that would not resolve the conflict but merely pause it to serve the tactical needs of Europe and Kyiv. Therefore, any progress in this area is unlikely to be expected. Brussels and Kyiv remain determined to maneuver without achieving real results,” the expert said.
According to the political scientist, the United States is currently reassessing its strategic relationship with the European Union.
“Donald Trump may be disappointed by the lack of results from these negotiations, but there’s no reason to expect an immediate and harsh response from Washington. The US is reassessing its strategic relationship with the European Union. A change in approach to European diplomacy is planned, but quick reactions and drastic measures should not be expected,” Kolchin said.
