In an interview with Alpha News, Mayor of Burbank Konstantine Anthony commented on the rallies held for several days by American Armenians, and noted that the idea of rallies suggested that some people feel uncomfortable. If you ignore the rally, it means that it is not good. Konstantine Anthony has stressed that the commotion around Artsakh is not new, it has reached the point where it is necessary to take actions.
“I talked to several local officials. Many agreed that certain actions should be taken. The Artsakh blockade has left 120,000 civilians on the brink of starvation for several months. Many people learnt about this situation this week, but Armenian families in Burbank and Glendale knew about it much earlier. The rest of the world has just begun to notice this problem. I do not know why it took them so long to understand, but I keep telling people that the commotion is not new. We have been dealing with this problem for a long time and now it has reached the point where it is necessary to take actions. People here are deprived of food, water, electricity, and now they have no Internet access. That’s enough,” Konstantine Anthony stressed.
According to Mayor of Burbank, rallies of American Armenians will become louder.
“I will quote a famous South-African bishop: If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If some person, group, or country actively puts pressure on another person, group, or country, you cannot just say: “Hey, let both sides agree, I am neutral”, this already shows your weakness. You know that one harms another. You have to step forward and stand next to the oppressed. To all those who are watching from their homes, support the protesters. The rallies will become louder, bigger, until things get better, we must continue to stay on the streets,” Konstantine Anthony concluded.
