Cassation Court declines to review appeal of Samvel Karapetyan’s legal team

The legal team representing businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan, head of the Tashir Group, issued a statement reporting that Armenia’s Court of Cassation declined to consider their appeal against the extension of Karapetyan’s detention.

At the same time, the court granted the prosecutor’s motion to review complaints against the decisions of the same courts that had previously ruled the charges against Karapetyan—related to economic crimes—were unfounded.

The legal team’s statement emphasizes that the court’s stance contradicts the principles of legal consistency and equality of parties.

“The investigative group of 53 investigators has been effectively inactive since October 16 and has taken no procedural steps. The criminal prosecution of Samvel Karapetyan defies legal logic and indicates a political dimension to the case,” the statement reads.
