Catholicos congratulates Armenian people on Christmas Day

Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II delivered a message on the occasion of Christmas. In his message, he touched upon the situation in the country.

“In the current difficult geopolitical situation, our nation has undergone serious challenges. Artsakh has been occupied and emptied of Armenians; Armenia’s sovereign territories remain occupied, and many of our sons are still in captivity or missing. Azerbaijan makes more demands and threats. Our country today is troubled by internal problems: lies, lawlessness, ill will, vindictiveness, and malpractices, which cause distrust, indifference, enmity and division in the society and weaken the nation,” the Catholicos said.

According to him, along with all this, the perversion of the notions of Christian morality and national-spiritual traditional values distorts the identity of the Armenian people, lowers the national spirit, and leads them into the trap of sin and despair. The Patriarch called on Armenians to unite for the sake of the state.

“We cannot serve the greater good by succumbing to thirst for power and prioritizing personal interests. We as a nation, in the homeland or in the Diaspora, will succeed if we always remain faithful to Christ, His teachings, act according to the Word of God and the divine will, and avoid misleading and divisive human guile. Let us unite for the inviolability and security of our state, the restoration of justice for our brothers and sisters forcibly displaced from Artsakh, and the reliable and prosperous longevity of our nation and homeland,” Karekin II said in his message.
