Catholicos of All Armenians and Latvian Ambassador discuss difficult situation in region

On February 14, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II received the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to Armenia, Edīte Medne, at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.
Emphasizing the importance of the friendly relations between the two states, the Armenian Patriarch recalled the support provided to the Armenian people by Latvia during the days of the Artsakh war.
The Catholicos appreciated the caring attitude of the Latvian authorities towards the Armenian community, noting that the Armenian community of Latvia actively participates in the public life of the country and has an important mission in strengthening relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the difficult situation in the region, the ongoing encroachments by Azerbaijan, the security problems faced by Armenia, the protection of the rights of the Armenians forcibly displaced from Artsakh, the return of the captives, and the preservation of the spiritual and cultural heritage of Artsakh.
His Holiness Karekin II expressed hope that the Armenian people will be able to protect their rights with the effective support of the international community and friendly countries.
The Latvian Ambassador touched upon bilateral friendly relations. She emphasized the need to establish peace and stability in the region through dialogue without resorting to violence. She underscored the importance of the full integration of the displaced citizens of Artsakh into Armenia.
