Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II intends to travel to Georgia to attend the funeral of Ilia II

According to Metropolitan Nikoloz Pachuashvili of Akhalkalaki, Kumurdo, and Kari, the Patriarchate has sent invitations to all First Hierarchs worldwide to attend the funeral of Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II. This was reported by aliq.ge. The Metropolitan noted that the Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II has stated his willingness to visit Georgia.

“I cannot say exactly who will come. We have sent invitations to all Primates, as required by rules and procedures. Not only Orthodox Churches are contacting us. For example, the Catholicos of All Armenians wants to come. They had very close relations and historical ties. But Armenia is currently facing serious problems, and the Catholicos is not being allowed to leave the country. We sent a special invitation, and if he is permitted, he will come,” Pachuashvili told TV Pirveli.

Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia Ilia II will be buried at Sioni Cathedral on Sunday, March 22. He passed away on the evening of March 17 in a clinic in Tbilisi.
