Speaking with Alpha News, Russian MP Vitaly Milonov commented on the closure of the representative office of the Rossiya Segodnya media group (Sputnik) in Azerbaijan.
“I can say this: Russia’s friends do not close Sputnik. Most likely, the reason is that Sputnik is a Russian agency that provides a Russian view. Moreover, it was never possible to accuse the Sputnik agency of providing some kind of unrestrained information; there has always been diplomatic parity in the presentation of information. They do not want the voice of Russia to be heard by people who consider Russia their closest friend,” the MP emphasized.
According to Milonov, those who shut down Sputnik want to start a disinformation campaign against Russia.
“Apparently, those who shut down Sputnik want to start a disinformation campaign against Russia. This is an extremely unfriendly move. These are the steps that the Baltic countries took. I do not know why Azerbaijan decided to put itself among the Baltic countries in terms of anti-Russian rhetoric. And most importantly, these steps are not accompanied by any official statements, announcements, or explanations of why they did this. If they decided so, then tell us why?” Milonov concluded.
