In recent weeks, the European Parliament has been actively discussing issues and resolutions related to prisoners of war in Baku, as well as various topics concerning Armenia and Artsakh.

Alpha News interviewed Arminé Hareyan, a member of the Reformist Movement party in the European Parliament, regarding these discussions.

“The European Parliament and the parliaments of various European countries have recently held hearings on the situation in Artsakh and the issue of prisoners of war. These initiatives show that the international community is not indifferent to human rights violations. The resolution adopted by the European Parliament on March 12 was a clear and strong signal of respect for human rights. I believe the closure of the Red Cross offices by Azerbaijan was also an alarming signal for European structures, and the parliament’s resolution emphasizes the urgent need to reopen the offices of these organizations. Additionally, it invites ambassadors from European countries to visit the prisoners of war held in Baku and monitor the entire judicial process against them,” Hareyan said.

According to her, the resolutions will only be effective if the international community takes tangible action.

“The more the issues of Artsakh and prisoners of war are raised, the greater their influence on the peace negotiations. However, resolutions will be effective only if, alongside statements, the international community also takes tangible actions. The Armenian community also has a great and very important influence on raising these issues. Through various organizations, Armenians actively lobby to raise awareness of these matters. By doing so, they demonstrate their stance to European representatives,” Hareyan concluded.
