After the devastating earthquake in 1988, many temporary shelters still remain in Gyumri. Residents spoke about this during a recent survey.
“Some shelters have been removed, but the concept of a ‘disaster zone’ has not yet disappeared,” said the residents.
When asked under which leader more construction work was carried out in the city, residents noted that each contributed in their own way, but the largest amount of building was carried out during Vardan Ghukasyan’s tenure.
Gyumri residents also emphasized that the authorities do not pay sufficient attention to people living in the shelters.
“I have not noticed construction work in Gyumri or apartments being provided to those who still continue to live in the shelters,” one respondent remarked.
