The CSTO project aimed at de-escalation of the situation in the South Caucasus is still valid and can be adopted if a consensus is reached, CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov said at the meeting of the CIS Security Council Secretaries on Wednesday.
“Speaking about the situation in the South Caucasus, I would like to emphasize that the CSTO draft decision, which was aimed at defusing the situation in the region and which, unfortunately, was not adopted at the meeting of the Collective Security Council last November, remains in force if a consensus is reached,” he said.
According to the Secretary General, the southern borders of the CSTO area of responsibility remain at risk of terrorist attacks, illegal migration, and trafficking of weapons and drugs.
He also noted that the CSTO has positive examples of gradual resolution of conflicts.
