Demonstrating anti-Russian interpretation of history, Armenian authorities hope to join NATO and EU – Alexander Krylov
Speaking with Alpha News, PhD in History, Chief Researcher at the Russian Academy of Science Alexander Krylov commented on the news that in a new textbook on Armenian history, the entry of Eastern Armenia to the Russian Empire in 1828 is called an annexation.
According to the expert, the Armenian authorities believe that by demonstrating an anti-Russian interpretation of history, they will be able to join the Commonwealth of Democratic Countries.
“Based on historical facts, it is quite obvious that this was the result of another Russo-Persian war. Armenia as a subject did not exist at that time. Borders were moving, some powers were getting stronger, others were getting weaker. That is why Russia was moving to the south, and during the war with Persia and Turkey, its borders were expanding. Thus, the Armenian population ended up being part of the Russian Empire.
It is obvious that this whole interpretation is dictated by the current situation and the fact that the Armenian authorities believe that by demonstrating their anti-Russian interpretation of history, they will be able to join the Commonwealth of Democratic States, that is, NATO, and the European Union. We will see what comes out of this, but Georgia’s experience is more negative than positive. It also followed this path. The Baltics and Ukraine followed the same path as well. I cannot say that these are very successful examples of development,” Krylov said.
