Russian political expert, Director General of the Institute of Regional Problems Dmitry Zhuravlev commented on another abduction in the Lachin corridor to Alpha News.

Dmitry Zhuravlev believes that only in case of punishment for such actions, the detentions of Artsakh residents by the Azerbaijani authorities will stop. “It will be repeated as long as it is unpunished. People are kidnapped either to put pressure on other people, or to create a tense atmosphere.

If there had been the first case, they would have already put forward some conditions: ‘we will return them, but you will give us…’, etc. Since this is not the case, you are left with option two – the destabilization of the psychological state, and this can last forever if not stopped. The criminals must be punished! As soon as they are punished, kidnappings will immediately disappear,” the expert noted.

Zhuravlev believes that international organizations and the activity of the Armenian side promise success in this difficult situation.

“In order to carry out this punishment, we need vigorous activity and sufficient resources. I have no doubts regarding the activity of the Armenian side, but whether there are enough resources to protect people from such encroachments or not is an issue. Well, of course, this issue should be raised in international organizations,” the expert concluded.
