Concerns about possible emissions from the fires in Iran lack scientific basis, Narine Kirakosyan, co-founder of the Eco-Media journalistic network, told Alpha News.
She explained that fears about emissions from burning oil or other materials reaching Armenia or Central Asia are exaggerated.
“From the outset, I should say that these concerns have no scientific foundation, and there is no need to be afraid of such claims. Heavy emissions from burning oil or other substances usually remain in the same area or nearby,” Kirakosyan said.
At the same time, she did not rule out that some emissions could be carried by winds from Tehran or bombed areas to more distant regions, but emphasized it is unlikely they would reach Armenia or Central Asia.
Kirakosyan pointed out that, according to Iranian official media, serious pollution is already being observed in Tehran.
“The news agency reports that the situation in Tehran today is quite bad, the city is covered in haze. It is especially dangerous for people with chronic illnesses and the elderly,” she said.
