According to an Alpha News source, French President Emmanuel Macron is likely to visit Armenia next weekend with a new statement on the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The visit is scheduled for September 9-10.
It is also reported that after Yerevan Macron should visit Baku.
It should be recalled that Emmanuel Macron came to Armenia only once – within the framework of the 17th Francophonie Summit held in Yerevan in October 2018, with leaders of more than two dozen attending. However, this visit had no significant impact on Armenian-French diplomatic relations.
After becoming President of France in 2017 and being re-elected in 2021, Emmanuel Macron has not been in Armenia on an official or state visit, unlike former French presidents. Jacques Chirac arrived in Armenia on a state visit in 2006, Nicolas Sarkozy – in 2011, and François Hollande – in 2014.
Hollande visited Yerevan for the second time in 2015 to participate in the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
During meetings with the Armenian community after the 44-day war in 2020, the current French president has repeatedly stated that he will come to Armenia when there is a shift in the Nagorno-Karabakh issue and France has something new to say.
